| Big Stink over Thursday's Betcha Can't Get ItAs you can see above, I haven't listed the Thursday Betcha question. It was "How much time in your lifetime do you spend sitting at red lights." The answer I quickly took from a web page said 8 hours. Of course after thinking about it, that's probably wrong.
Listener Gary Jenkins put pencil to paper on it....
I listen you your morning show daily on way to work and enjoy the Betcha Can't Get It question. Yesterdays question(which is not up ou your website...maybe someone else questioned the math), you spend 8 hours of your life at stoplights does not add up. Now you may have covered this before the question today, I was a bit late into the car pool.
8 hours = 480 minutes, typical life driving 60 years, 480/60= 8 minutes per year which translates to less than 1.5 seconds per day. Even if you go to 8 days its still s stretch by my math its around 30 seconds a day. 11520 minutes/60 years = 192 minutes per year. thats still less than 32 seconds a day. thats not more than 1-2 stop lights per day.
Great show and keep our brains working in the morning. |
| What does Oye Como Va (by Santana) mean?
Hi Dick,
In listening this morning and after playing Santana's Oye Como Va, you asked for the translation. Many people answered and some were close but like the English language, how an entire sentence is used determines the actual meaning. What the singer is saying is as follows:
Oye como va, mi ritmo
Bueno pa' goza, mulata.
Now for how that translates:
Listen how it goes, my rhythm
Let's go have some fun, black woman!
In the line, 'bueno pa' goza', both pa' and goza is slang. pa' is an easy way to say numerous words that refer to; if and but to and for among a few. One might say, palla (pronounced pie-ya) which is translated 'over there' and goza is slang from the word gosar which is have fun in translation. The best comparison I have is similar to how, in the English language, when we talk we might say, 'member how we used to drive through the country. That as opposed to 'remember how we used to.....
Hope this helps next time we listen to that wonderful rhythmic song!
A loyal listener,

| Don't Drink These if you want to lose weight!Drinks and the Forgotten Calories
When most people think about cutting their calories, they opt for a salad instead of the fries aside their burger. And maybe they'll even opt for a water instead of a beer. But alcoholic beverages aren't the only ones that pack on pounds. Thanks to Men's Health, we now have a list of the most calorie-laden (non-alcoholic) drinks to avoid when you start your "getting ready for summer" diet.
-
Worst lemonade: Minute Maid. It has 250 calories in a 20-ounce bottle. Refreshing? Maybe. Needed? No.
-
Worst energy drink: Rockstar. It has 280 calories. Try Monster Lo-Carb Energy at just 20.
-
Worst bottled coffee: those cute little Starbucks frappucinos - 290 calories in that little bottle.
-
Worst soda: Sunkist. One 20-ounce bottle has 320 calories. Not needed.
-
Worst fruit juice imposter: Arizona Kiwi Strawberry. Despite the fruits in the name, there's actually only five percent of juice in a 23.5-ounce can. And a whopping 360 calories!
-
Worst "Reduced Calorie" smoothie: Dunkin Donuts Reduced-Calorie Berry Smoothie. With 490 calories in a 32-ouncer, how much would the regular smoothie have??
-
And finally, the Worst Drink in All of America for 2009: the Cold Stone Creamery PB&C Shake Gotta Have it Size. Unless, of course, you're looking to increase your waist size. This sucker has 2,010 calories - that's more than the average person should be taking in throughout an entire day! Think about that the next time you want to indulge.
